Swimming equipment – Everything that makes a difference in the water

Whether you're a triathlete, track swimmer, recreational swimmer or open water enthusiast, the right swimming gear is crucial to your experience, performance and development. It's not just about getting from A to B in the water – it's about doing it with technique, comfort and efficiency.

At Transition Zone, we've handpicked the best gear from renowned brands like Sailfish, TYR, ZONE3, Arena and Speedo, so you can focus on your training and your goals – whether you're swimming in the pool or open water. In this guide, we'll dive into the most important swimming gear and how it can help you become a stronger and more technical swimmer.

Basic equipment – What you can't do without

Swimming goggles are undoubtedly your most important piece of equipment – regardless of your level. They protect your eyes from chlorine and salt water and ensure clear vision. For indoor use, we recommend goggles with clear or slightly tinted lenses. For open water, mirrored or dark-tinted lenses are ideal, especially in sunlight.

Swimming caps are also essential. They reduce water resistance, keep hair out of your face, and help retain body heat. Silicone caps are the most popular as they are durable and comfortable – especially for longer sessions.

Swimwear with a good fit and low water resistance makes a noticeable difference. For training, we recommend chlorine-resistant materials, while competitive and open water swimmers can benefit from technical suits or swimskins. (We have swimskins from Sailfish).

Wetsuits are a must for open water swimming and triathlon. They provide buoyancy, warmth and reduce drag. We carry carefully selected models from Sailfish and ZONE3, both known for their comfort, flexibility and performance in the water.

Training equipment – Improve your technique and strength

Good swimming technique requires practice and the right equipment. Here are the most commonly used and effective training equipment:

Flippers – short fins improve leg technique, strengthen kick and increase speed. Perfect for technique training.

Kickboards – train leg strength and technique, especially in crawl and breaststroke. Available in various sizes and materials.

Pull buoys – used between the legs to focus on arm movements and upper body. Provides buoyancy and stability in the legs.

Paddles – flat plates for the hands that increase resistance and strengthen arm grip and technique.

Snorkel – especially a front-mounted snorkel is indispensable for technique training, as it takes the focus off breathing and lets you concentrate on body position and movement.

All training equipment should be appropriate for your level and goals. For triathletes, it is especially important to train with the equipment you will use in competition – such as a wetsuit, fins and snorkel.
