Fins – Get more speed, better technique and stronger legs

If you want to optimize your swimming training, a pair of flippers (or fins) is one of the most effective tools you can add to your gear bag. Whether you're a beginner, recreational swimmer, or a triathlete chasing seconds, flippers give you faster speed, improved technique, and leg strength training all in one tool.

At Transition Zone you will find fins from renowned brands such as Speedo, Arena and Sailfish, all known for delivering world-class quality and comfort. We have models for every need – from short fins for technique training to longer fins for efficient propulsion and diving.

What are fins – and how do they work?

Flippers are flexible fins that you put on your feet to improve your propulsion and leg movement in the water. They are most often made of silicone or rubber, which ensures a good combination of comfort, flexibility and durability. When you swim with flippers, water resistance increases and your legs have to work harder – while also gliding through the water faster.

But it's not just speed that gets a boost. Flippers lengthen your kick and help you get more out of each stroke. Not only does it improve the efficiency of your swim, it also helps you fine-tune your technique and body position.

What types of fins are there?

There are several types of fins, and the choice depends on what you want to achieve with your training:

Short fins
These are ideal for technique training and sprinting. They provide a natural kicking rhythm and improve your leg kick frequency, which is especially relevant for crawl and butterfly. Short fins are also easy to control and give a more realistic feel in the water.

Long fins
Long fins are great for distance and diving, as they provide more propulsion with less effort. This makes them ideal for endurance training and for swimmers who want to focus on longer, smoother strokes.

Adjustable or open heel feet
These models have a strap around the heel, making them more flexible in size and often more comfortable, especially if you wear them for a long time. They are a good choice for those who want an adaptable fin with high comfort.

The benefits of using fins

Fins aren't just speed and fun – they're a serious training tool with many benefits:

Strengthened leg muscles
Because you work against greater water resistance, you train your thighs, calves and hips more intensively.

Improved technique and kicks
You will have the opportunity to refine your kicking technique because the fins lengthen the movement and make any errors visible.

Increased swimming speed and propulsion
The extra propulsion makes it possible to experience the feeling of speed and flow – which is also hugely motivating!

Variation in training
Flippers offer the opportunity to break the routine and add variety to both technique and interval training.
