Power meter – the ultimate tool for structured cycling training

In a world where precision and data are increasingly important in cycling training, the power meter has cemented its place as one of the most valuable tools for both exercisers and elite athletes. A power meter directly measures the power you produce in the pedals – and it provides an accuracy and objectivity that neither heart rate, speed nor feel can match. Whether you are training for your first triathlon or optimizing your form for a licensed race, a power meter is your shortcut to more targeted and effective training.

With us you will find power meters that suit different needs and setups – regardless of whether you prefer pedal mounting, crankset-based solutions or something else.

What is a wattmeter and why is it important?

A power meter records how many watts you produce while cycling – that is, how much physical work you are actually doing. This is done using sensors that measure the force you put into the pedals and combine it with pedaling speed (cadence). The result is an accurate picture of your current effort, which is not affected by wind, terrain, fatigue or temperature – unlike, for example, heart rate, which can vary greatly for many different reasons.

With a wattmeter you get:

Precise training zones: You can train targetedly in specific watt zones and ensure that your intervals are on target.

Objective measurement of progress: Instead of "feeling" better, you can measure it in black and white.

Better pacing in competition: Especially in triathlon, where you need to conserve energy for the race, pacing with watts is a game changer.

Effective recovery: A power meter reveals if the body is not performing as normal – even if you feel fresh.

Which type of wattmeter is right for you?

There are different types of power meters, and which one you choose depends on your needs, your budget, and the type of bike you ride.

Pedal-based power meters: These are easy to move between bikes and don’t require changes to the crankset or bottom bracket. They’re popular with riders with multiple bikes or those who want flexibility. Many models measure both the right and left legs individually, which can provide valuable insight into leg balance.

Crankset or crank-based power meters: These are integrated into the crankset or crankset itself and are often lightweight and discreet. They typically require installation that is not easy to switch between bikes, but they are often more affordable and weigh less. They provide reliable data and are used by many amateurs and professionals alike.

Hub-based power meters: Although less common today, there are still solutions where power is measured in the rear hub. This is a stable solution, but limits flexibility and precision in terms of right/left measurements.

Regardless of which type you choose, it is important that the power meter fits your bike and your needs for mobility, data and accuracy.
